Ocelot knows his heritage, that he's the son of a legend, and he wants to live up to the legend though he doesn't show much promise. It's unclear if The Boss even knows who her son is. The Boss essentially wasn't allowed to be out of combat, not allowed to have a child, and so they took him away from her before they could bond. Ocelot was the only son of The Sorrow and The Boss. Thanks for sharing! Truly some cool stuff! Hence the search for fan-theories that fit my desired narrative. It just took me a while to get over the initial "betrayal" of not playing as the true BB. You are right about Venom and BB being separate people. (I'm guessing the same way that zombies are a cultural "phobia" attributed to America). Had no idea that "dopplegangers" we're a cultural phobia in Japan. Snatchers for example (which seems to be in the same universe as MGS, happening years after MGS4 and even has a Metal Gear MkII from that game - it's different from Policenauts that has Meryl Silverburgh and FOXHOUND, Snatcher seems to be more than just a reference to the Metal Gear -series)."
It's a typical japanese phobia and cultural thing. The theme of doplegangers is very present in every Kojima-title. They pulled off a similar stunt in the last game (MGS4), where Snake was super confused why Big Boss was still alive, and it turned out the body he saw was Solidus, the most perfect clone of Big Boss (others include Solid Snake himself, and Liquid Snake). The only instances where we have seen Big Boss actually BE evil was with Venom, and it was quite cleverly noticed by Kojima with MGSV (or that really was part of his plan). Solid Snake was totally confused why "Big Boss" (Venom) hated and betrayed him at the end of MG1. The real Big Boss did nothing but help him and even hugged and cried with him in MGS4. This is confirmed by the fact that the true Big Boss never HATED Solid Snake, only Venom did. That was always a thing Kojima was supposed to reveal for 30 years. "But then we are back to zero and have no reason for why Big Boss didn't die in Metal Gear 1 (not Metal Gear Solid 1 but the two previous ones) for the Konami MSX -console, to which MGSV is a direct prequel to. I really liked this comment, so I decided to repost it, keeping the author anonymous: TL DR - Why does Ocelot change character so much between Phantom Pain and MGS? He became so evil and manipulative in comparison to his former self.Ī fellow fan just wrote something really cool but was deleted while I was writing a reply. Maybe I should've played the games in release order, to get a grip on who Ocelot really was. What happened to Ocelot? Why did he become evil? It was very dissapointing to me that my favorite character in Phantom Pain changed so much. Then I moved on to Metal Gear Solid 2 and he was doing his own evil plans while working for the patriots. My first thought was that he was just some sort of spy, because he was pretty good at self hypnosis. But then it got me by surprise that Ocelot was actually working for Eli and helping him in his evil plans. And was expecting Ocelot to be loyal to Solid Snake, just like he was to Big Boss. Yeah he did torture Emmerich in a few scenes, but even when Quiet was being tortured by Kaz, he was the only one to intervene.Īfter finishing Phantom Pain, I moved on to Metal Gear Solid. Even when there was the mission of killing the kids, he was the first to suggest to do it "the diamond dogs way" (At least I'm pretty sure it was him). He was this level headed guy at Diamond Dogs who was loyal to Big Boss (both real and fake), and seemed like a really nice guy. In Phantom Pain, my favorite character was Ocelot. I played Metal Gear in chronological order. Please also use context cues to help decide if you should tag a detail in your comments.
